Roger Wylde, the Wylde man of football, will be holding his 25th year testimonial game at Edgelely Park, Stockport on Tuesday 9th July.

The night is a guarantee of great football, with line ups that will exist for one match only!

Kicking off at 7:45pm, the evening promises to be a ‘Festival of Football’, as Sheffield Wednesday take on the ex-County team that won promotion to Wembley 4 years ago.

Past Stockport stars such as Ash Williams and Anthony Pilkington will play alongside other club greats, including Le Fondre, Carlo Nash and Aaron Wilbraham.

Two legends will also take to the pitch for each team in the second half, as Chris Waddle will play his last game for the Owls and Micky Flynn will be up against him with County.

Roger Wylde played for Sheffield Wednesday, Oldham, Sporting Lisbon, Sunderland and Barnsley before ending up at Stockport County, scoring 139 goals in 370 English league games. He successfully fought a battle with cancer at the age of 31 and is now a long-serving physiotherapist at Stockport County.

He has recently written his memoirs, a collection of stories about his life and the encounters he had with a string of high-profile football notorieties.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £3 for kids, £5 for concessions and are available from the Edgeley Park Ticket Office on 08456 885799.

Designed and managed by Maximum Social Marketing (MSM) in partnership with the supporters club, the website will become the new online hub for the team’s hundreds of thousands of supporters across the world.

The entire fan club community – all 142 branches from Abu Dhabi to Yeovil – will be able to access news and reviews, talk to each other and find out what’s going on at their favourite football team.

MSM hit the button for the site to go live during Manchester City’s 2-1 win over West Ham on Saturday, where the company’s work was featured in the supporters’ brochure to make sure the City faithful know they’ve got a new digital resource.

Neil Collins, Managing Director of MSM, said: “As a City fan I’m really proud to be working with the supporters of one of the country’s most successful football teams. In partnership with Intellihosts, we all worked very hard to make sure that every member of every branch has access to a great site that they can use as an online home. We’re also taking the victory this weekend as a sign that the site is on to a winner!”

The site will have loads of content for fans including videos, blogs and news from their branch. Every single branch has their own section of the site dedicated to the fans and managed by the fans.

Through MSM’s partnership with Manchester based rewards scheme Citycard, the supporters’ club members also have exclusive access to offers at local restaurants, bars and venues.

Sale Sharks has teamed up with the Trafford Centre’s SAFFRAN Restaurant to promote healthy eating to their fans and the people of Manchester.

This collaboration is part of SAFFRAN’s healthy eating campaign Challenge 2 Change: Eat Tasty, Stay Healthy. The campaign is aimed at making people aware of the alternative foods available that are good for them and even better tasting than the unhealthy so called treats they eat now.

SAFFRAN Managing Director Alan Brogan says: “There is a perception that treating ones self means eating unhealthily and we want to change that. The best way to do that is by educating people and getting them to experience the healthier alternatives. At SAFFRAN we have an award-winning menu that proves our point – we don’t fry anything, there are no white flours, our sauces are healthy and natural and every meal, including pizzas and burgers, comes in at under 650 calories.”

The coming together of SAFFRAN and Sale Sharks is a natural one as the Sharks have also been doing their own work in promoting healthy eating over the last year. Sharks PR Manager Andy Stevens believes “sports people have a big role to play in influencing people to make better eating choices. At Sharks we have been trying to do our bit and it is great to have a local partner like SAFFRAN who shares this ethos. Let’s hope we can make a difference, especially with the kids who really look up to the sports stars.”

The campaign will kick off at SAFFRAN in the Trafford Centre at 6pm on March 20th, where Tom Holmes and Rob Miller will partake in the ‘Eat Tasty, Stay Healthy Cook Off’. Both players will pick a meal from the menu, be trained how to cook it and then be judged by the SAFFRAN Chefs.

SAFFRAN itself has forged a big reputation internationally for making healthy dishes both delicious and exciting and was inspired by the idea that being healthy is not about dieting, but is about finding great tasting food.

Avalanche marks the return of Italian food to the building where it all began in Manchester. Isola Bella was the first Italian restaurant in the city when it opened and now Avalanche is bringing high-end Italian cuisine back to the same venue.

The interior of Avalanche has been designed to create a relaxed atmosphere during the day, and at night the restaurant emulates the fine dining establishments of Paris and Monte Carlo.

The beauty and grace of Avalanche is encapsulated in it’s grand chandelier. 100 kilos of bespoke, hand crafted crystal crowns those walking along the stairway. Imported from Portugal, the exclusive chandelier cost £50,000 and took ten men to carry into its new home.

The owners of Avalanche previously ran Don Giovannis in Manchester and have also run several successful restaurants in both Manchester and London.

Avalanche’s opening night was dedicated to raising funds for the Kirsty Club charity and Kirsty Howard was the guest of honour on the night.

If you’re aiming for posh and swanky then the River Resturant in the Lowry Hotel has got a four-course menu for £58, this includes a cocktail on arrival to add a sense of celebration to the night. The menu hits all the loving high notes – consisting of scallops, parsnip textures and vanilla jus, a main of cocoa nib crumbled loin of venison and dessert of rhubarb espuma with passion fruit jelly and white chocolate ice cream.

Pink champagne special at the EastZEast Restaurant

When nothing but champagne will do then head down to premier Indian Resturant EastZEast, where they’ll be handing our complimentary glasses of pink champagne upon entry. Of course you can always trust Harvey Nichols to pour the bubbly, as their restaurant is offering a five course tasting menu and a glass of champagne for £90 per couple. The icing on the cake (metaphorically) is that you’ll be treated to beauty product samples from the Creme De La Mer range.

Peach Bellinis and a special four course meal for £48 is being served in Kaleido, which sits on top of the National Football Museum, and the 63 Degrees Resturant is running a three-course meal for £36.

If you beleive that love is a gamble then there’s a four-course aphrodisiac menu, a cocktail, live entertainment and a £5 bet at Linen Resturant at Manchester235 Casino.

So just remember on the 14th February that music is the food of love – and no city is more musical than Manchester.

Manchester’s famous Chinese New Year celebrations are just around the corner!

The Year of the Snake will be kicked off in style on the 10th February with dazzling events in the city centre organised by the Federation of Chinese Associations of Manchester which will immerse the city in the Chinese culture.

Chinatown and the Albert Square (which you can enter for free) will be covered in a street market from 11am, with unique shopping and food stalls, art and craft workshops and loads more.

A key part of the celebrations will be the Dragon Parade and Lion Dances by Master Chu. Starting at 12:30, this is a bright and colourful parade that commences at the Town Hall and weaves its way into China Town. Organisers have promised that this year’s lion dance will be the most amazing one ever performed in the UK!

Performances will be entertaining the crowds in both locations and a spectacular 15 minute fireworks display will crown the evening at 6pm.

There will be a fair ground in the city centre and you can even learn a traditional Chinese art form on the day such as calligraphy, origami or you could play the ancient Chinese game tangram.

This is the biggest Chinese New Year celebration in the North with over 65,000 people attending in 2012.

The Year of the Snake facts

The snake is symbol of ambience in traditional Chinese custom and legendary folklore and it is loved by the public because it was found in China’s earliest totem.

The Sale Sharks stormed to victory yesterday with a 36 – 17 win over the Scarlets in a fast paced game that was tinged with drama.

In the opening 20 minutes of the LV = Cup game at the Salford City Stadium it looked like Sale were heading for a defeat, as Andy Fenby made it over their try line in only three minutes, followed by Gareth Davies 17 minutes later. To add to the home team’s problems Captain David Seymour was injured, and despite rejoining the game he was soon replaced by James Doyle.

A successful penalty from Danny Cipriani had put points on Sale’s board before the Scarlet’s second try, but it was looking like they were going to be defeated by the Welsh team’s hard attacking style.

After 30 minutes of play the Sharks had clawed back a few points thanks to two well kicked penalties which put the scoreboard to 9-14.

Shortly after, referee Ian Tempest warned the Scarlet’s about frequently pushing the rules and Jake Ball was sent to the sin bin after one infringement too many. This gave Sale a window of opportunity they were quick to exploit and scored two tries whilst their opponents were a man down.

Richie Vernon took them up to level pegging at 14-14, after the video ref had to confirm he had indeed made it over the line. Cipriani missed the conversion but the crowd were soon on the feet as Sale flowed forward with fast passing down to their left wing which allowed Charlie Amesbury to find a space in the red line of defence and plant the ball in the corner for another try.

The Sale Sharks push towards the Scarlets’ tryline.

At half time Sale were in the lead with 21 points to the Scarlet’s 14.

When they got back to the pitch the away team looked eager to close the points gap and went up to 17 points with a penalty. However the lead was put back up to a 7 points difference when Sale got a penalty and Cipriani shot the ball through the posts.

More sin bin strife came the Scarlets’ way when Rhodri Jones was sent off the pitch at the 60 minute mark. This was capitalised on by Sale as Kearnan Myall broke through the lines with Richie Vernon and a dive by Cipriani earned them their third try. After a successful conversion Sale were now up 31-17.

The second half saw the best tackle of the match when Sammy Tuitupou sped into Scarlets skipper Gareth Maule in a powerful attack he was unprepared for. The slow motion replay on the TV screen elicited a collective sharp intake of breath from the crowd.

However more was to come for the fans to talk about as Charlie Ingall scored the fourth and final try of the match with only 5 minutes left on the clock. The conversion failed to add to the score but by the final whistle it was 36 – 17 to Sale, meaning the 3,000 strong crowd had seen a brilliant game which put a bonus point win on Sales LV = Cup score sheet.

SAFFRAN, the newly opened Trafford Centre restaurant, has launched a new campaign challenging people to open their mindset and discover that eating healthy can be the best tasting food of all.

The award-winning restaurant is kick-starting their campaign with banners on nine school buses in the Manchester area. The focus is to help children understand that there are alternative foods available that are good for them but don’t mean cutting out great flavours.

The company itself has forged a big reputation internationally for making healthy dishes both delicious and exciting.

Challenge 2 Change at the SAFFRAN Restaurant

The restaurant is working with Belle Vue Coach Hire to get their message to Manchester’s school children.

Philip Hitchen, Managing Director of Bellevue Coach Hire, said: “Having visited the SAFFRAN Restaurant I absolutely loved the taste of the chicken and was surprised by how healthy the food was. As I take children to school everyday I thought, maybe there’s something I can do to help them make better choices, which is why I’ve partnered with SAFFRAN.”

SAFFRAN is also looking to work with local health and sports enthusiasts to prove that their food is the healthiest and tastiest in town. This means that they’d like to hear from potential ambassadors, people who are interested in spreading their healthy eating message to schools, gyms, sports clubs and other places in the city that would like to know about eating great-tasting healthy food.

Throughout the campaign SAFFRAN will help their customers with educational material inspired by SAFFRAN’s ethos that being healthy is not about dieting, but is about finding great tasting food. Alan Brogan explains: “For example, doing a great chicken dish does not have to involve deep fat frying it to get taste. We use skinless, boneless chicken that we marinade in our special spice mixes and then cook in a tandoori oven to give it that extra flavour that makes it the best tasting chicken in town.”

Another key aspect of this campaign will be to challenge the restaurant industry to make more of an effort in creating delicious food that is also wholesome.

You can keep up to date with the campaign by Liking our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter @SAFFRAN_UK. We’ll also be using our social media accounts to bring you lots of great information about healthy eating – from recipes to cooking techniques, ingredients and loads more.

If you’d like to visit the restaurant or find out more please get in touch by ringing 0161 210 3223, email promotions@maximumsocialmarketing.com or tweet @SAFFRAN_UK
