Central Library is opening its doors on the evening of Saturday 22 April for a retro-party in one of the most iconic historic buildings in Manchester.

In celebration of World Book Night a silent disco will be held in the library’s performance space from 7-10pm.

The night will be hosted by DJ John Ryan (Girls on Film, Gaydio, Max 80’s digital radio) who will be creating three mixes for party-goers to flip between including 70’s and 80’s classics and a Manchester bands mash-up.

Headphones will be provided to those strutting their stuff on the dance floor and a licensed bar will be open during the event.

Librarian fancy dress is optional but there will be prizes awarded for the best outfits.

Cllr Luthfur Rahman, Manchester City Council’s Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “What better place to hold a silent disco than in a library. Central Library is well known as one of the most iconic historic buildings in Manchester but the facilities inside are most definitely fit for the 21st century, providing vital free learning and leisure space for everyone in Manchester.

World Book Night is a national celebration of reading and books which takes place on 23 April every year. It is run by The Reading Agency, a national charity that inspires people to become confident and enthusiastic readers.
